Ask the legal expert: Copyright in research and teaching
The Library of Science invites you to a webinar on copyright in research and teaching with Carl Petersson, legal counsel from the Legal Division at Lund University.
Copyright is central to both research and teaching practice. Everything from how you use material in lectures and on Canvas to how you publish, share and reuse research results, including material created using generative AI.
Have you ever wondered about any of the following:
- Am I allowed to use copyright-protected images in my teaching or in my research presentations?
- What are the rules if I want to include or adapt someone else’s figure in a scientific publication?
- Can I reuse my own material in a new article, thesis or teaching context?
- How do Creative Commons licences work in teaching or research? What does a ‘No Derivatives’ licence actually mean?
- What are the rules for AI-generated content? Who holds the rights and how can it be used in research and teaching?
Take the opportunity to ask your questions directly to a legal expert!
Content and structure
The webinar begins with an introduction to the basics of copyright, focusing on both teaching and the research process. Topics include:
- the use of materials in teaching, such as images and other resources
- the reuse of materials in scientific publications and presentations
- copyright issues in relation to publication and parallel publishing
- licences, agreements and exceptions under copyright law
- issues relating to visual material, generative AI and digital content.
After the introduction, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
You are welcome to submit your questions in advance to: biblioteket [at] science [dot] lu [dot] se (biblioteket[at]science[dot]lu[dot]se)
