Shut up and write!
Having trouble getting started with your writing? Is your text at a complete standstill even though the deadline is approaching? Would you like some company whilst you write? Come along to ‘Shut up and write’!
‘Shut up and write!’ is a shared digital writing session where you, together with other students and a librarian, focus on your own writing. The session consists of five short writing blocks in a supportive environment, free from distractions and demands. It’s a great way to get started, stay motivated and get things done – whether you’re writing an essay, a report or any other piece of work.
When?
Thursday afternoons:
17, 24 September
1, 8, 15, 22 October
5, 12, 19, 26 November
3, 10, 17 December
14 January
Time: 13:00–15:15 (Don't be late!)
Where?
In Zoom: https://lu-se.zoom.us/j/66924100297
Structure
We’ll start with a brief check-in where you set a specific goal. This is followed by five focused writing sessions (20 minutes each) with short breaks (5 minutes each) in between. We’ll finish with a check-out where you reflect on how it went and what the next step will be. You can say your goal out loud or type it into the chat, for example: “I’m going to write a draft of the methodology section on field data collection.”
To ensure a peaceful working environment:
- Sit undisturbed, preferably in a room with the door closed.
- Keep your camera and microphone on during the writing sessions.
- Switch to ‘Do Not Disturb’ or ‘Airplane Mode’ on both your computer and mobile phone.
- Arrive on time (late arrival = admission during the next break).
After ‘Shut up and write!’ (15:30–16:15), you can use the same Zoom link to ask librarians and a language and study consultant questions about writing, texts, reference management and other topics. You can find out more about this in the Library of Science’s calendar.
